Did you know you are supposed to ‘PRIME’ or ‘BREAK IN’ a chalkboard before using it? Often new chalkboards don’t work as well as you had hoped; to prime the new chalkboard, just follow these simple steps:

Cover the surface with chalk”]

This may get Messy! So perhaps do it outside. First thing to do is cover the entire chalkboard surface with chalk. Rubbing the side of the chalk and in all directions… left to right, top to bottom and criss cross.

Rub in and wipe clean”]

Now that everything is all chalked up, grab a soft microfiber cloth. Then rub the chalk into the surface in circular motion. Then wipe clean with the cloth until the chalk is all off .

Now that the surface is primed you are free to unleash your carrotivity!
To cut down on dust when erasing, use a slightly damp microfiber cloth, and be sure the board is dry before drawing again.

A great idea for easy display is to place the small chalkboards on shelf. The small chalkboard is so light and easy to handle, that it is perfect for almost anywhere.

[tab title=”Picture Hanging Strips”]

We really like this idea! Found at most home hardware stores, you can find picture wall mounting strips that are suited for picture frames. They are different kinds that will be appropriate for different weights and situations including permanent or temporary. Once placed on the chalkboard and the wall, you can then take off the chalkboard as you please. In addition, if you place another set of mounting strips on a different chalkboard in the same arrangement, you can then swap out one for another!

A great idea for freely placing the chalkboard, especially the larger ones, is to use ‘picture ledges’. They come in various sizes and colors, and are easily mounted to any wall. One suggestion is the IKEA RIBBA; Picture ledge. They come in two sizes, approx, 22″ & 45″.
